Post Doctoral Travel Grant

The travel grant (one per year) will be available to outstanding postdoctoral researchers, normally within 6 years of receiving a doctoral degree, working in the field of genetics.

The fellowship aims to support visits to carry out research into aspects of human inheritance in laboratories abroad ‘to enrich the research experience and help develop the scientific career of the Fellow’. The duration of the Fellowship needs to be well justified in relation to the time needed to do the proposed work. Requests for up to 6 months will be considered if well justified. Applications will also be considered for attendance at advanced, intensive, high quality laboratory-based courses, e.g.: at Cold Spring Harbor, Woods Hole and similar centres. The grant will not fund attendance at other types of scientific conference or meeting.

Funding will be up to £6,000. (90% of the money will be given at the start of the fellowship, with 10% withheld until a written report of 750 words is received on return to the UK. This report will be published in the Adelphi Review).

Each application has to demonstrate

• Originality

• Feasibility

• Track record

and include

• Letters of support from head of department and Supervisor

• Letter of support from head of host lab

The grant will be aimed primarily at postdocs who want to learn a new technique not available in their current lab. It is a requirement that the applicant returns to the UK lab for a minimum of 6 months at the end of the fellowship, so continuing funding must be in place in the UK to cover this.

The fellowship will cover flight and living expenses but not lab consumables which need to be met through other sources. The money also will not cover conferences during this period.

Application will be reviewed by a special Adelphi Genetics Forum subcommittee.

A short report must be submitted to the Adelphi Genetics Forum at the end of the fellowship.

Application form can be found here.
